Mya Chan

I’d spent the Saturday in London and typically being me, I’d given myself very little rest and had arranged the first model shoot in several months for the Sunday. What was I thinking? No extra sleep that weekend for me!

Mya had messaged me on a modelling website a few weeks prior and told me she was spending a day at Sowton Studio, which is my most local studio and a really great place that’s been put together by ‘Mr Dave‘. Mya was lovely in her communications and I really liked the look of her portfolio so agreeing to shoot was an easy decision.

Of course, as I alluded to in my last post, I’d managed to miss my planned coach home from London the day before. Not panicking too much, I’d booked a seat on the very next service (the final one of the day) and although now arriving back in Exeter in the early hours of Sunday morning I knew I’d eventually get home. I hadn’t realised though just how close I’d been to not making it at all. Whilst waiting for the bus Mr Dave messaged me to confirm a few things and as we chatted he mentioned that Mya had been planning on jumping on the same coach that I was now booked on … but couldn’t make it as it had sold out! This was only a half hour or so since I’d bought my ticket, so I’d been ever, ever so lucky. It did mean though that Mya needed to delay slightly the start time of our shoot as she’d need to travel down the following morning instead. Well, that fortuitously worked for me … that meant more sleep!

Sunday came and it was unfortunately a bit of a dull day making my preferred natural light shots tricky. Mya though was happy to run with my ideas as I made them up and although I had my doubts at the time, I think we managed to get some photos we could be really pleased with. We used the summer house and garden, finishing up with a set using the studio lights. A pretty nice variety.

Since that day Mya has been back to Exeter on a few occasions and I’ve let her down each time by not being available to shoot again. If you read this Mya, I’m so sorry and I most definitely am not avoiding you deliberately!

I’d highly recommend working with Mya if you get the chance and I hope I will again, provided she doesn’t become fed up of me!
