Juk Thailand

Don’t let the name of this post fool you. This is an entry from England!

It was the end of 2023 and after November’s trip to Thailand I really didn’t think I’d be shooting again until well into 2024.

To give some background, for a long time I’d been chatting online to a lovely couple from Thailand who really enjoy photography. We’d originally connected via Flickr, but later on through Instagram and Twitter/X and it just so happened they were going to be spending some time over Christmas and New Year in England. With a couple of free days they decided to use them to head west and before I knew it we were all sat in Starbucks enjoying a coffee and meeting for the first time face to face.

Juk hadn’t travelled prepared to shoot, but as the afternoon progressed we found conversation heading that way and it was decided on the spur of the moment that we’d use a window in their travels the next day (New Year’s Eve) to shoot some simple portraits.

When morning came I headed into the city centre to a well known hotel and met up with them at their room. Although the space was small (and dare I say it, the room a little aged) we had a spot of lovely sunlight falling through the window. It was bitterly cold outside, but snug in. Juk understandably was a bit nervous to begin, but we concentrated on some simple shots keeping close to the window at all times as the rest of the room quickly fell into deep shadow. Before I knew it we’d rattled through a couple of sets even doing some erotic nude art.

Afterwards we braved the elements outside and headed up to Tyepyedong for some awesome noodles … it was also about the only place open still serving food in the afternoon!

A big thank you to Juk and her partner for travelling such a long way to meet me, it was wonderful to meet you both. Hopefully we’ll cross paths again when I’m in Thailand next.

This was certainly a great way to say goodbye to 2023 and I hope you like this selection of photos!
