We’d had so much fun on our previous impromptu shoot that we were quickly putting plans into place to get together again and create some more images. This time though we were going to have at least the basic elements and framework agreed in advance rather than being completely spontaneous!
The first May bank holiday arrived and we headed out to Dartmoor and one of my most favourite spots – Foggintor Quarry. It’s a beautiful location and there’s so much going on there that I’d always wanted to try a portrait shoot with it as the backdrop. I’d actually tried once before a few summers ago but we were both up against time and a horde of campers who’d pitched up all around the site!
The plan for the images wasn’t too different to our previous shoot, just with the surrounds of the landscape rather than the urban sprawl of the city. Art Nude would be the order of the day, with an erotic twist.
Although there were hikers dotted here and there, shooting in the afternoon saw it fairly quiet and as we could take our time, we could easily work the shots without fear of inadvertently offending anyone. My favourite moment of the shoot though came when a parrot (yes, a parrot!) flew into the middle of the scene. There’s a vlog on You Tube of this shoot and if you watch it (please do!) you will see the parrot in the distance! So random!
Although this was only my second shoot with Babalon, it felt like the 5th or 6th such was the ease we felt around each other. It made the shoot so much fun with plenty of laughs throughout.
I hope you’ll like these images. I remember frantically editing the last of them at about 1am whilst waiting for a taxi to pick me up for the first of my Thailand trips that year. Since then Babalon and I have shot one more time (spring 2024) and my word, just wait ’till you see those!
