I’d been to Chiang Mai once before back in 2015 on my first real trip to Thailand. I’d only stayed a few days though and had jam-packed my time with tours and sightseeing. I knew I’d not given myself enough time there and promised myself I’d get back at some point in the future. The years rolled by though and I found myself giving more time in Phuket and Pattaya at the expense of coming back. Even on my trip back earlier in the year I’d decided against it.
The winter of 2022 came though and with it the ability to take 3 weeks off work. It was a culmination of all the leave I’d accrued during Covid and was my last opportunity to take it. This time I decided I’d make the most of that time and include a return to Chiang Mai in my itinerary. It wasn’t just the city I wanted to see again, but I also wanted to meet up with fellow photographer Jantira Namwong (Boudoir by Ya) as we’d been chatting online for many years but never met. We arranged a shoot together and that will come in the next post.
First though, Chiang Mai. It was almost exactly as I’d remembered with an abundance of temples (Wats) and good coffee shops. This time around I’d given myself enough time just to soak things up and I spent the days walking the streets and seeing what was around every corner. For the first time I actually vlogged this one, so if you want a different take on it than written word please do check out the video I posted on my You Tube channel!
The highlight for me was getting to see Wat Chedi Luang. I’d tried to see it back in 2015, but had run out of time. I loved the photos I’d seen of it and it was the one place I’d absolutely marked as essential to see this time around. I was so glad that I managed it as it was spectacular – a real favourite.
Chiang Mai is my most favourite city I’ve visited in Thailand – the only thing missing for me is the coast – and that’s a big thing otherwise I’d always come back!
Here’s a selection of the photos I took over those few days, I hope you’ll like!
